Yes, it is safe. I have pcos, take the glucophage and have also taken with the antibiotic. No problem.
The two drugs can have a moderate interaction. What happens is that the Metformin will stay in your blood longer, at higher plasma levels due to the combination limiting your kidney’s ability to clear it. It is possible for this to cause your blood sugar levels to drop. If you begin to feel weak and shakey be sure to eat or drink something to keep your sugar levels up. If it gets severe you need to notify your Dr.
Edit; To zerofx8 AND to the original poster;
This information can be verified at Drugs.com. Simply look up the med. (which is an oral antidiabetic) see what it does and click on the “interactions” feature and pair metformin with Keflex.
zero, you must be quite the pharmacist!!!
Im not sure where the previous poster got their information (metformin does not cause hypoglycemia so there would not be any signs or symptoms of that) but there is no interaction between the two. Do not worry about taking the two drugs together. You might have some increased diarrhea / nausea if you havent gotten used to the side effects of the metformin yet.
